On completing a full risk assessment of the oil spill area we can determine if the oil tank and contaminated soil can remain in-place. Sometimes the level of contamination is simply too high to leave in the ground. In these instances the soil needs to be excavated and removed. Firstly the oil tank is decommissioned and then a full excavation of the contaminated area can begin.
At the end of the work day, we sample the excavation area to confirm all the contamination has been removed or to determine what levels, if any, are still remaining.
If analysis determines there is still contamination remaining but at significantly lower levels, then we may conduct a risk assessment or, if lab analysis confirms all the contaminated soil has been removed then we can backfill the excavation and restore the site.
Disposal of Contaminated Soils
We carry out full tests of the soils contaminated in the event of an oil spill.
Samples are taken for chemical analysis and based on the results, our oil spill team can recommend what the best way forward is.
In the event that the soil contamination is too high and a full excavation of the land in question has taken place we will remove the soil in question and it will be disposed of off site allowing us to carry out a full remediation of the land in question.
